Expensive Coffee

People are characterized by passion and the desire to get the best. And to enjoy the taste is one of the very first desires in human nature. Therefore, it is not surprising that there are queues of those who are ready to pay unthinkable money for the right to enjoy a cup of coffee.

And we are ready to lift the veil of secrecy to tell you about the most unusual and expensive types of coffee that have ever existed.

5th place: Panama Geisha La Esmeralda

This famous Panamanian variety Geisha beat many competitors to take the last prize place. For one kilogram of freshly roasted coffee you will have to pay 10-11 thousand rubles. But if you want to buy not so much, then prepare yourself for an increase in the price to 1.5 thousand rubles (for 100 grams).

Experts have recognized it as the best example of the variety grown in Panama. The La Esmeralda brand sells coffee under its own name. There is also a Colombian analogue, which is inferior to the Panamanian one, but it can be purchased under the original name Geisha.

And for all those who do not understand where the African flavor of a purely Japanese concept comes from, we will give an explanation. The official version says that this is the name of the area that is the birthplace of the coffee variety.

4th place goes to Blue Mountain from Jamaica

Its minimum cost is fixed at 27,000 – 28,000 rubles. That’s how much you’ll have to pay for a kilogram of aromatic pleasure. Naturally, this price will increase to 3.6 thousand rubles per 100 grams if you want to treat yourself to coffee in smaller quantities. This original JBM will be appreciated by absolutely all coffee lovers, impressed by the incredible and memorable bouquet of taste. But this variety ripens not only on the Jamaican slopes. Therefore, it can be sold with a variety of coordinates.

3rd place goes to Brazilian Jaco Byrd

It is gratifying to see an alternative to the famous Kopi Luwak as a bronze prize winner. At a specialized farm, coffee is picked not by people, but by feathered representatives of the chicken order. These local birds peck the ripe berries whole. And after some time, the fermented coffee beans are excreted. Now people are required to collect, wash and dry the coffee. Freshly roasted Jacques Bird is characterized by a rich taste. It is immediately recognizable by the distinct aroma of rye bread and black molasses. You will have to fork out and pay from 2.8 to 3.2 thousand rubles for 100 grams.

2nd place was won by Indonesian Kopi Luwak

Its cost will vary significantly depending on the origin of the variety and the volume of purchase. Civets, which are kept on specialized farms, are fed the coffee harvest. Then the beans are obtained, fermented in the digestive tract of the animals. Coffee obtained in this way is less valuable than that collected in the wild. The price for 100 grams of such coffee of natural origin reaches 4.7 thousand rubles, and for a similar variety from China or India you will pay 2.1 thousand rubles.

1st place goes to Black Ivory from Thailand

Also known as Black Tusk, Black Ivory, this fermented coffee is priced at $1,100 per kilogram. It is made from local Arabica beans in Thailand. The berries are fed to elephants and after the partial fermentation stage is complete, they are harvested. They are then thoroughly washed, dried, and processed.

It is quite difficult to buy this coffee, because it is sold only in the Anantara Reserve. However, in expensive Thai hotels you can taste the drink, such a cup of coffee will “pour out” into 50 dollars.

Now you know that Black Ivory is the most expensive coffee on the planet. And fermented Kopi Luwak confidently holds its position as the most expensive variety available for sale.
