How Much Can You Get with the WA Battery Rebate 2025?
How much you receive depends on your electricity network and the size of battery.
• Synergy-area customers get $130 per kWh (capped at $1,300 for a 10 kWh system)
• Horizon Power customers (remote areas) get $380 per kWh (capped at $3,800).
This reflects higher costs in rural zones. On top of that, the Federal Government’s battery rebate (roughly a 30% discount on battery cost) stacks on top.
Practically, a 10 kWh battery will qualify for the full state rebate and roughly $3,700–$4,000 federal rebate. Altogether, residents can see up to $5,000 off (Synergy) or $7,500 off (Horizon) the cost of a 10 kWh system.
And remember, no-interest loans can cover up to $10,000 of your purchase (battery, inverter, or even solar upgrades) if your household income is below $210k.

Shortly after July 1, 2025 when the program launched, the WA government expanded availability so even more households could claim rebates. Thanks to that update, 100,000 rebates are now available and the higher rebate rates apply to allow widespread uptake.

4. Approved vendor & products: Buy through an accredited WA vendor. Ensure the battery and inverter are on the Synergy/Horizon supported equipment lists (which themselves draw from the Clean Energy Council’s approved list).
5. VPP-ready & compliant: Your chosen battery system must be Virtual Power Plant capable and meet the network’s technical rules. (This means a smart, grid-connectable battery with internet connectivity.)
6. Landlord consent (if renting): If you rent your home, long-term rental is eligible – you’ll just need written permission from your landlord to install the battery. (Short-term holiday lets don’t count.)
If you tick all the above, you’re good to go. On the flip side, owners of government-owned properties or industrial sites cannot apply. The scheme is strictly for residential, grid-connected WA homes.
VPP-ready batteries must be on the approved lists. Popular models include Tesla Powerwall, LG Chem RESU, Sonnen, BYD and others – all with internet connectivity to join the grid’s Virtual Power Plant.
