You need to check the business, set a budget, and meet key dates. Errors in a form or a missed payment step can affect your bid. A plan helps you keep track of each task and avoid a last-minute rush.

Learn the Basics

Start with the IPO meaning: an Initial Public Offering is when a company first offers its shares to the public. The offer may include new shares, shares sold by existing holders, or both.

Funds from new shares go to the company. Funds from shares sold by existing holders go to those sellers. Check this split to see who receives the money. A public offer does not assure a gain or a share allotment.

Read the Offer Document

Read the Red Herring Prospectus, also called the RHP. It sets out facts about the business, its risks, and the offer.

Focus on what the firm sells, how it earns, and how it plans to use funds. Review its sales, debt, cash flow, and profit or loss. Check pending court cases and risks linked to key clients.

Write a brief note on facts you understand and points that need a check. Do not base your plan on ads or social media posts alone.

Set a Clear Budget

Decide how much cash you can set aside before you bid. Keep funds for rent, bills, and urgent needs separate.

Work out the bid amount using the share price and lot size. For example, a lot of 100 shares at ₹120 each needs ₹12,000. Two such lots need ₹24,000. These figures are just an example.

If you track several offers, note the cash needed for each. Funds blocked for one bid cannot fund another bid at the same time.

Check the Offer Terms

Read the price band, lot size, bid rules, and investor category that apply to you. Do not assume all public offers follow the same terms. Mainboard and SME issues have different rules.

Check if your category allows a cut-off bid. Where allowed, this means you agree to pay the final issue price within the price band.

Make sure the share count fits the stated lot size. Recheck the full bid value before you submit the form.

Build a Date Checklist

Note the opening date, closing date, mandate deadline, and planned allotment date. Add the expected date for share credit and listing.

Set reminders that give you time to act. Your bank or broker may have its own cut-off time, so check that too.

Submitting early leaves time to address errors or a delayed mandate. It does not assure shares. Keep checking official notices in case the schedule changes during the offer period.

Verify Your Account Details

Check that your PAN and demat details are correct. Keep your bank account active and confirm that your KYC is complete.

For a UPI bid, use a supported UPI ID linked to your own bank account. Check the name, account details, and available funds before you proceed.

Avoid duplicate bids under the same PAN in the same category. These may lead to rejection. Read the offer rules for any permitted bids across reserved categories.

Complete the Fund Block

ASBA stands for Application Supported by Blocked Amount. Under this process, the bid amount stays blocked in your bank account.

If you use UPI, submitting the bid is only one step. You must also approve the valid mandate within the stated deadline. Check the company name and amount first.

Confirm that the bank has blocked the funds. Save the bid receipt and mandate details. If the request fails or does not arrive, contact your broker or bank while time remains.

Track the Result

Check your IPO allotment status on the issue registrar’s official website once the result is available. Enter the PAN, application number, or demat details that the site requests.

A submitted bid or blocked amount does not mean shares have been allotted. Review the result.

If you receive shares, confirm the debit and demat credit. If you receive none, track the release of blocked funds. Report delays to the bank or registrar and keep your records ready.

Keep a Review Note

After the process ends, record any errors, missed alerts, or payment delays. Use this note to update your checklist for the next offer.

Keep the offer document, bid receipt, and result in one folder. This gives you a clear record if you need help with a query.

Conclusion

IPO planning involves research, a fixed budget, correct details, and timely action.
